About the Author
Lia Smith-Pratt began her career in home care as a Caregiver and CNA, working for private duty agencies and skilled care facilities over 35 years ago. She then moved into Home Care by working as a staffing director; subsequently managing two large home care agencies. Ms. Smith-Pratt began to see a trend in management and mindset that was not conducive to establishing quality care of the Seniors who were the primary clients, or of the caregivers who cared for them. In April of 2000, she started her own agency, A Better Solution In Home Care, Inc. At the time of this publication, Ms. Smith-Pratt has been in business for over 18 years, learning from mistakes and adjusting her philosophies along the way. As a result, she has slowly raised her brand name within the industry, creating a thriving and well-known Home Care agency. Ms. Smith-Pratt recently added Skilled Nursing Care and Medicare Certified Home Health to her Service Structure, and also offers Placement Services, all of which has increased her company's reputation and revenue streams while better serving the Senior/Home Care community. In 2015, Ms. Smith-Pratt took on a Partner and began to franchise her Agency Concept. This book is a culmination of both the winning strategies and missteps that she has seen not only her "Baby CEO's" make-but also owners all over the country, when trying to establish themselves in the industry. Making this book available to not just her Franchise Partners but to all home care owners is indicative of the drive and purpose of Lia Smith-Pratt, who is a fiercely competitive business woman. Ms. Smith-Pratt prefers to educate ALL home care owners in the Spirit of Service. The tips she shares are helpful to owners who do not want to make costly mistakes, and who want to create financially successful agencies while maintaining an environment and company culture of integrity and dedication to the Seniors and Medically Fragile population in their care.
