Confederate Gold fictionalizes one of the enduring mysteries coming out of the American Civil War: What happened to the Confederate government treasury? Fire Down the Valley, which deals with the painful and rarely acknowledged range wars between cattlemen and sheep men and farmers in the West, is the first of two novellas in this collection on America's expansion west toward the Pacific Ocean. Ridden West is a story of one young man following the Horace Greeley "Go West, young man" dream.
